God’s Incredible Love and Purpose for Us
(from Christ Presbyterian Church sermon, September 29, 2002)
Ephesians 1:3-6
The apostle Paul is speaking of the love of God--a love deeper, fuller and more amazing than we could ever imagine in this lifetime.
God is holy and blameless. He is so completely different from us and far greater than us, that we had to be adopted to be in His family.
Romans 5:8
It was nothing in us. We have nothing that could ever commend us to Him. It has nothing to do with us and everything to do with Him.
Ephesians 1:4
The Lord disciplines us, knowing that sin destroys who we are: the people He created us to be.
Revelation 4:5 and Ephesians 1:6
We were created to glorify God and enjoy Him forever! This brings us the greatest and ultimate fulfillment. We are most satisfied when doing what we were made to do!
Example: In Toy Story II, Woody tried to be someone else but then ultimately realized he was a toy designed for children to play with: This is what he was made for!
Acts 2:22-41
When we realize the grace of God, we will do anything for Him!
“We settle for a cottage of faith, when we could be living in a mansion of grace and mercy.” --C.S. Lewis
